The Canadian Professional Soccer League (CPSL)
The league was formed as a result of an study completed in 1996 that identified professional soccer as a major priority and that it should be developed from the bottom up with strong links to a now well established and identifiable grass roots club program.
The Etobicoke Youth Soccer Club was formed in 1989 through the amalgamation of the West Mall Soccer Club and Martingrove Soccer Club. These predecessor clubs had been in operation since the mid-1960s.
The Weston Soccer Club was formed in 1998 with only TWO competitive teams, U9 and U10 boys teams. In the past four years the club has grown to ten rep teams and six all star teams. We are presently the youngest and most successful club in such short span.
1997 - Tony Marmo, Richelle Plantinga, Dave Ashfield and Alan Hosey submitted a proposal to the USISL to obtain a W-League Franchise for Scarborough, under the name "Scarborough W-League" until a proper name was found.
The Toronto Lynx belong to the 19-team North American A-League which includes the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Montreal Impact and the Calgary Storm. The A-League is part of the umbrella organization of the United Soccer Leagues with the League offices in Tampa, Florida.
Since its creation in 1971, Ajax Warriors has grown to be our Town's largest outdoor sports organization. It offers house league and rep programs for boys and girls, as well as teenage men and women, ranging in age from 4 to 18.
